Agentic TMS Platform with Multi-Agent Dispatch
Built a full TMS dispatch application with a built-in MCP server and orchestrating AI agent managing four specialized sub-agents: dispatch, safety, accounting, and workflow integration.
Dispatch Automation Rate
National Freight Carrier
The Challenge
A national freight carrier was running dispatch operations across 12 terminals with 40+ dispatchers making manual decisions on load assignments, route optimization, and carrier compliance. Each dispatcher handled 80-120 loads/day with inconsistent decision quality, missed optimization opportunities, and 6-hour average time-to-dispatch for complex multi-stop loads.
Our Solution
We built a complete TMS dispatch application with an embedded MCP server that exposes every system capability as a structured tool. The orchestrating AI agent coordinates four specialized sub-agents, each with scoped permissions and domain expertise.
System Architecture
Orchestrator Agent
Central coordinator with full system visibility. Routes tasks to sub-agents, resolves conflicts, handles escalation to human dispatchers.
Dispatch Sub-Agent
Load matching, route optimization, carrier selection. Accesses rate databases, GPS feeds, and capacity planners through MCP tools.
Safety Sub-Agent
FMCSA compliance checking, HOS validation, insurance verification, hazmat routing. Blocks non-compliant assignments before they happen.
Accounting Sub-Agent
Rate confirmation, invoice generation, margin analysis, detention tracking. Real-time P&L per load.
Workflow Sub-Agent
EDI integration, customer notifications, appointment scheduling, document management. Connects to 15+ external systems via MCP.
Results
“We didn't replace dispatchers. We gave 12 of our best people superpowers and let agents handle the other 28 desks.”
